Who we are
Connect Perthshire is an online guide to businesses, events and jobs across Perthshire. This policy explains what personal information we handle when you use the site, enquire about a listing, or manage a listing as a business owner. We are the data controller for that information.
What we collect
- Visitors: pages viewed, search terms, listings shown and clicked, referring page, and general device and browser information. This is collected only where you have accepted analytics cookies.
- Business enquiries: the business name, your name, email address, phone number, chosen plan and category, and anything you write in the message box.
- Listing content: business contact details, descriptions, images, opening hours, services, menus, events, job vacancies and links supplied by you or gathered from public sources.
- Business owner accounts: the email address used to sign in, and a record of changes made from that account.
- Reported problems: the details you submit when you tell us something is wrong with a listing.
- Cookie choice: your accept or reject decision, stored in your browser.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To run, secure and improve the site, and to keep listings accurate — our legitimate interests in operating a useful local guide.
- To respond to enquiries, set up and manage listings, provide owner logins and send performance reports — performance of our contract with the business, or steps taken at its request.
- To measure how the site is used through analytics — your consent.
- To meet accounting, tax and legal obligations — legal obligation.
We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for automated decision making.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers needed to run the site, and only as far as they need it:
- Our hosting, database and authentication provider, which stores the site’s data.
- Stripe, which processes payments as merchant of record and holds the billing details for paid plans.
- Google, whose public business data and reviews we display on some listings, and whose mapping links we use.
- The AI provider used by our trip and event planning feature, which processes the request you type in to generate suggestions.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries: up to 24 months from your last contact with us, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Listing content: for as long as the listing is live, plus a short period afterwards.
- Owner accounts: until the account is closed or the listing ends.
- Analytics records: up to 26 months.
- Billing records: as required by UK tax law, normally six years.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage to keep the site working and, with your consent, to understand how it is used. See our cookie policy for the detail and for how to change your choice.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- ask us to delete information where we no longer need it;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
- withdraw consent for analytics at any time;
- ask for a portable copy of information you gave us.
To make a request, use the form on our contact and listings page. If you are unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Security and storage
Access to listing and enquiry data is restricted to our team and protected by authentication and database access rules. Some of our providers process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on safeguards approved for international transfers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be published on this page.
